Karnataka assembly elections: AIADMK to contest on two seats
In a statement, the leaders, who are joint coordinator and coordinator of the party, said the AIADMK would contest in two constituencies, Gandhi Nagar and Kolar Gold Field, the Tamil-dominated areas.
“The party aspirants who want to contest in the two constituencies shall submit their applications on two days, March 18 and 19,” they said.
To boost the morale of the state unit, the dual leadership also appointed former Bengaluru district secretaries, M P Yuvaraj and S D Kumar as Karnataka state secretary and joint secretary respectively. The former state secretary, Pugazhendi switched loyalty to Dhinakaran camp ever since the OPS and EPS camps merged.
The party has its presence in southern states, Maharashtra, New Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
This is the first election, after the dual leadership suffered a serious setback in R K Nagar bypolls, where dissident leader, TTV Dhinakaran won by a huge margin. Incidentally, Dhinakaran’s petition challenging the Election Commission’s November 23 order recognizing EPS-OPS group as real party and allotting two leaves symbol, comes up for hearing in Delhi high court on Tuesday afternoon.
